CHN Energy Baorixile Project is a safety demonstration project for unmanned truck marshalling operation in open-pit coal mines in extremely cold weather. Since the commencement of its construction, the project has been “first in five aspects”: The world’s first mining truck marshalling operation demonstration project to be implemented in an extremely cold environment; the world’s first 5GSA unmanned driving project to be implemented for open-pit coal mines; China’s first 200/higher-tonnage unmanned driving transformation project; China’s first all-weather three-shift unmanned marshalling operation project; China’s first mining truck marshalling operation project to be implemented in the absence of a security officer.


In May 2020, CHN Energy Dayan Corporation (Baorixile Energy) officially launched the project in conjunction with the Aerospace Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. and Qingdao WAYTOUS Intelligent Machine Co., Ltd. Using the communication technology offered by China Mobile, the Company completed construction in the following aspects: 5G SA independent networking, simulation testing, static equipment transformation, dynamic debugging in closed space, five vehicle marshalling operation in extremely cold weather, all-weather operation, and vehicle operation in the absence of a security officer. In September, 2021, the project passed the industrial demonstration operation safety review and sci-tech achievement appraisal organized by the China National Coal Association. As the first project in the industry to meet the industrial requirements according to a professional accrediting agency, it has stood the test of extremely cold weather at -42℃, with its highest running speed, 40km/h, ranking first in the industry. The appraisal results show that it reaches the international advanced level. It is the “world’s first” in two aspects and “China’s first” in three aspects, filling many gaps in unmanned mining truck driving operation in extremely cold weather. It plays a leading role in relevant domestic fields. The experience can be replicated and promoted. The comprehensive efficiency of unmanned transportation is not lower than that of manned transportation. The project experience can be replicated and promoted.


In terms of standardization construction, the project can help to form the world’s first unmanned driving test standard system for extremely cold conditions, so as to provide guidance for unmanned mining truck driving implementation in similar environments. In terms of commercialization, less-manned and unmanned operations can be carried out to fundamentally ensure operation safety, prolong operation duration, achieve efficient and safe production, so as to help achieve the goal of “ensuring safety in less-manned and unmanned operations” in mines, with a view to promoting the construction of intelligent mines.
